Travel around the coast can be an exciting experience for visitors to the Costa del Sol. Whilst there is a mainline train stations connecting with the major Spanish cities, it is the local line that most people are interested in. This runs from Málaga to Fuengirola and has stops at all the main tourist areas. The carriages are clean and spacious and the next stop is shown in lights above every door making them easy to use for visitors.
Buses are plentiful all along the coast and are cheap, clean and comfortable and the ideal way to travel to see the countryside.
Taxis tend to be a bit erratic, and though not too expensive, care must be taken that you do not incur a lot of expense by using them unnecessarily. Every taxi must, by law, have a tarrif card which they must show to the customer if requested. If you think that the driver is asking too much, simply say "tariff" and they are likely to show you the card. Most of the drivers only speak Spanish, or very limited English, and they may well pretend not to understand you if you query the price.
